Cable used in gold (discovered in 1859) mining operations in the now ghost town of Bodie wrapped around a giant metal spool. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1961; 1962 became Bodie State Historic Park. Bodie named California's official state gold rush ghost town. Historic District, California State Park.
